Philosophy

The "Diamond" is the most played indoor 4v4 formation. The setter stays at the centre of the net, two wings take positions P4 and P2 toward the 3 m line, a single defender covers the whole back court. Simple to set up, good short-range defensive coverage, but weak at the back of the court.

★ PROS
  • The most used in indoor 4v4 — the format's reference.
  • Good short coverage (setter + 2 wings at 3 m).
  • Stable distribution, no penetration.
★ CONS
  • Only 1 back-row defender — the long diagonal is very vulnerable.
  • No centre quick (zone 3 is occupied by the setter).
  • Offensive options limited to 2 wings.

Beginner
The most used formation in indoor 4v4. 1 setter at the centre of the net, 2 wings at mid-court (P4 and P2 toward the 3 m line), 1 back-row defender covering the whole back court. The setter takes the 2nd contact and distributes to the wings — no penetration.
Intermediate
Typical defence: system A (1 central blocker + 3 defenders). The setter blocks at the net, the 2 wings drop to the 3 m line after the attack to cover, the back-row defender stays deep. Most vulnerable zone: the long diagonal — not enough players at the back.
