Errors specific to the 5v5 format (adaptations from the Volleyball Canada doc, VolleyballXL, and 6v6 doctrine).
1. Mechanically copying 6v6 : Covering 3 deep zones with 3 defenders works (2F-3B setup), but the off-blocker who pulls back is missing — the 3 m zone isn't covered if no one is explicitly assigned.
2. The off-blocker stuck at the net : After the block, the off-blocker has to pull back to 2-2.5 m to cover tips. If they stay at the net, the zone behind the block is wide open.
3. 2 defenders standing side by side : In 3F-2B setup, the 2 deep defenders must be spread (one left side, one right side), not centered together. Otherwise, the sidelines are uncovered.
4. Setter leaves too early (penetrating setup) : In 2F-3B setup with a penetrating setter from P1, they have to wait for the ball to be defended before running to the target — otherwise hole in Z1.
5. Front/back confusion : With 5 players, the temptation is to let the front-row players defend their side by staying on the 3 m line — but that leaves the back open. Front-row players go up to the block, back-row players defend deep.
6. Faulty reading : The one-player deficit demands an even earlier read than in 6v6. "Ball → setter → ball → hitter" sequence + balanced stop at contact.
